Bedroom Flip on a budget!

(Here's a sneak peek post flip :)

When we first saw our (new to us) house, it was kind of like an episode right our of Love it or List it.

Our house was your typical, outdated, under maintained, 1970's townhome.

Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures post renovation, but our bedroom started out looking almost exactly like this:

(except ours was puke yellow and had huge gaping holes all over the walls)

After some plaster to fill the holes, knock down for wall texture, fresh new carpet and several layers of paint went up, our room became one I could spend hours in!

Initially, I wanted all white, but somehow though monochromatic is lovely in a magazine,  in real life the room became cold and lifeless.

I added a few pops of color and horizontal line to break up the space.

Now, Its bright and cheery, but still feels cozy and warm.

Take a tour with me!

Its funny how taste and perspective evolves and changes as you design a new space.

I hated these flu flu lamp shades when I bought them. I wanted something simple and classic.

But then when I got them into this space, the tans and taupe just seemed to work! So I reiterated the stripe motif with my hand-painted curtains!

(I couldnt find what I wanted I made them myself. Tutorial coming soon!)

The more I added pieces to this space, the more I gravitated towards a very French style.

A few distressed items, mixed with some pops of glamour love.

Most items were finds from Marshall's, TJMAXX, rummage sales, or local flea markets!

I waited for weeks and then, this canvas went on sale! Usually I prefer unique that is not mass produced, but for some reason, this piece kept drawing me in!

Canvas print purchased at Cost Plus World Market.

I made these pillows from scratch!

Ballard Designs was selling them for $30-$40 per pillow and I couldn't see spending that with shipping.

I blew up similar text on my computer, printed them out on heavy stock paper, cut out the letters with a razor blad and sponge painted them them on to left over burlap.

This was the last piece I purchased for our bedroom. The moment I saw it, I knew it had to be mine! :)

I downloaded the Kirklands "Spin to Win" app (free) on my phone and spun every day until I got a decent percentage off. Then the day I went in to buy, it had been marked down, so I snatched it up!!

I love it's whimsy and old world charm.

Thank you for visiting our cozy place of slumber.

Sweet dreams, friends...
