Good Morning Dear Friends and Blog World!
I have a very special prayer in my heart this morning. That God would just bless the socks off of Janet Byrne's second annual "Just Breathe" 5k.
I am certain I won't do her beautiful story justice, but I am incredibly honored to have had Janet's blessing to write on her life and mission.
It isn't called "Just Breathe" just because she is such a breath of fresh air.
Janet is a remarkable fighter. A remarkable (dual) lung transplant survivor!
You see, Janet is 40-something years young. Her entire life she has been active and bubbly.
A mother to a family of all boys and wife to a supportive husband.
In April of 2010 Janet received word that she must undergo a double lung transplant and her life depended upon it. Her world was flipped up-side-down.
Waiting for a donor was just one of many obstacles they had to over come.
But a donor came and the surgery...A SUCCESS!
Regardless of the trials she faced, if you were to talk to Janet today, her humble spirit would tell you that her survival was purely an act of God...an act of grace and love.
Her story is a true miracle.
In her own words:
"Having had lung disease for many years, in August of 2011, I underwent a double-lung transplant. Since the transplant, God has given me a greater understanding of His mercy, love and grace. Having been on oxygen for 16 months, God used that time to speak to my heart regarding beauty, trust, surrender, His faithfulness and perserverance... just to name a few. My story is truly HIS story and I desire more than anything to bring Him glory as I share it and various other topics. My life verse has become Isaiah 12:4 which reads "Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done, and proclaim that His name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world."

So, Janet set a goal. A goal, that at the time seemed impossible.
Janet's goal was to run a 5k, the year following her surgery.
Below are a few photos of Janet RUNNING across the finish line, after her double lung transplant, at her first 5k!
I have tears in my eyes, just reminiscing over this miraculous moment. (and I kind of adore the expression of her son in the neon yellow---leading the pack!)
If you are in the Lake Country area, or feel like taking a road trip to Fram Park in Waukesha, WI this August 10th, please join Janet and her family...

Last year, each participant received a T-Shirt, treats and these awesome little stones. Kavs and I keep it on the shelf by our kitchen sink...so not a day goes by that we aren't reminded of sweet Janet, and praise Him for his love and mercy.
