You say, "Deer." I hear, "Dear." - Peninsula Part 3

The last day of our getaway was what I'd like to call...a relaxing adventure -- if that doesn't contradict itself :)

(More from this trip Here and Here)

We woke up when we wanted, went for breakfast and then ventured out for an all day bike ride in Peninsula State Park!

Perfection.

(At the risk of sounding like Goldilocks...) The air was brisk and just right.

Not too hot and not too cold.

Usually the adventurer in me would want to have kept riding and riding fast, but we didn't.

We would stop at the water's edge, snap captures of the beautiful scenery and take it all in.

It was glorious. Just what we needed...together.

All along, the Kavs was ahead or behind me yelling, "Dear, isn't this great?"

And then this happened.

Let's just say I am not the strongest biker. There were just a few hills that I had to build up major speed before hitting the base of them and striving to make it to the top.

So I am biking my hardest, mid way up the hill.

And all of the sudden I hear the Kavs yell,..."DEAR"..."DEAR!"

Since that's always what he calls me and I don't have time to look back or I will lose momentum, I pump my legs faster...

A second time he yells, "Dear!!" Except this time I realize, he is not calling affectionately for me, ...

I had just ridden past a DEER...literally 1 foot away from my bike :)

Let's just say where you see the deer in this photo above,...I basically rode past him near the edge of this road ...completely unaware.

Oh did we laugh. I was so focused to get up that hill that I had no idea I had literally almost run a deer over.

But isn't that how life is sometimes? We are so focused and determined to get through life and it's challenges that we can completely miss God's grace and beauty that constantly surrounds us.

My husband was enamored at being so close to these beautiful tame creatures.

We spent at least 20 minutes just watching them and I adored every minute.

Not typical of my "always on the go" behavior, but it was wonderful.

And we ended the day beach-side...with a Cherry-filled lunch of cherry bread and jam, coupled with pickles and apple cider donuts from my favorite local farm.

Exquisite afternoon I'd say :)

Today I will be in Indiana at a conference and I cannot wait to learn and grow there!

My goal this weekend and this week: To take the time to pay attention to His creation, and less time focused on the trials around me.

There will always be some sort of hill to get over, but it's so critical to try to enjoy the process, or we might miss something amazing :)

Have a wonderful weekend!!!
